Terminal Trieste achieves next milestone with new ZIM services

Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG's Italian multi-purpose terminal "Piattaforma Logistica Trieste" (HHLA PLT Italy) is expanding its network. A new container and a RoRo-service from the shipping company ZIM are starting in May. HHLA PLT Italy thereby underlines the importance of Trieste as an Adriatic hub.

HHLA PLT Italy is intensifying its cooperation with ZIM. The Israeli shipping company will call at the multi-purpose terminal in Trieste for two new services. It will start with the new RoRo-service “Vehicle Carrier Service 1 (VE1)”, which will stop at Trieste once a month. On May 13th, the "Viking Sea" was the first ship to launch this service at HHLA PLT Italy. The ship mainly carried new emission-free electric cars destined to be imported from China to Europe.

From May 19th, 2022, ZIM will also start a new container service at HHLA PLT Italy. The “Adriatic Express Service (ADX)” will connect Trieste with Israel (Ashdod) and Turkey (Aliaga) on a weekly basis, focusing on the transport of fresh goods in reefer containers with competitive transit time.

Antonio Barbara, Managing Director of HHLA PLT: “With this further milestone, HHLA PLT gains a competitive connection with important markets in Israel and Turkey, operated by the shipping line ZIM. This again proves the attractiveness of our terminal services to customers.“

The Adriatic region continues to develop dynamically. With the expansion of the cooperation with its customers, HHLA PLT Italy underlines its importance for the logistic hub of Trieste and the creation of new cargo streams.
