THEN: Photo opportunity for the opening of the 1977 fruit season: a straddle carrier is clearing reefer containers from the Israeli shipping line ZIM. These ground-conveyancing vehicles could then only stack boxes two high.

NOW: Modern straddle carriers regularly stow the containers in three layers at Burchardkai. Specialized lashers manually set and remove the twistlocks that fix the containers together.
