Half a day earlier at the destination

Christian Körte, Head of Customs Germany at Hellmann Worldwide Logistics, reports on his experiences with IMP.

Industrial and trading companies have the expectation, reports Christian Körte, that they receive updates on the respective ship arrival every 24 hours: "In Hamburg, we easily meet this requirement. Through our participation in IMP, we update changes in ship arrivals for our customers almost live." This is another reason why almost all containers that Hellmann handles on the import side via the seaport of Hamburg are handled via the IMP platform.

Christian Körte provides an example for the practical use of this platform. “Unloaded containers provided automatically with duties may be collected directly by truck drives, even outside normal office hours.” This could be particularly interesting for containers carrying mixed cargo, meaning goods for different recipients. The truck driver can still drop off these containers at the Hellmann yard overnight. Then everything will be ready for commissioning (sorting and distributing according to order) by the beginning of the shift at six o’ clock. In Körte’s experience, if the process was carried out manually the next day during business hours, the containers would be at the yard at midday at the earliest.
