New regular DFDS service and EKOL intermodal connection for Trieste

RoRo ferry Cappadocia Seaways called at the HHLA PLT Italy terminal in Trieste, Italy, the first service of international logistics company DFDS to do so. The multi-function terminal will now handle this service regularly, connecting the Turkish city of Mersin with Trieste and the eastern Adriatic. Representatives of the shipping company, eastern Adriatic port authorities in Trieste and HHLA PLT Italy personally welcomed the Cappadocia Seaways.

DFDS, based in Copenhagen, operates a wide transport network that includes RoRo ferries. The Cappadocia Seaways, together with the Paqize and the Olympos Seaways, now travels in a regular liner service between Mersin and the Adriatic port of Trieste. DFDS will call at HHLA PLT Italy three times a week to discharge and load trucks, trailers and swap bodies.

HHLA PLT Italy also welcomed the first Ekol train on 22 February as it inaugurated regular intermodal service between Trieste and Karlsruhe, Germany. Six times a week, Ekol Logistics will run block trains of 16 wagons on the route. The new rail service contributes to the reduction of road traffic in Europe and underlines HHLA’s commitment to sustainability.
