HHLA has its own high-performance transport systems that connect European ports with the hinterland. Metrans, a fully owned subsidiary of HHLA, is a leading operator for intermodal container transports in Europe.

By operating 20 owned terminals and a growing number of relations, Metrans is optimizing the rail traffic as well as the handling of containers. With its more than 130 modern locomotives and 3,700 special railcars, Metrans guarantees a high frequency and reliability.  Therefore, it can provide tightly scheduled and efficient rail connections between ports on the North and Baltic seas as well as the Northern Adriatic and their respective hinterland in Central and Eastern Europe. Specialised transport and logistics service providers complement the range on offer: HHLA’s subsidiary CTD is the market leader for container trucking in the Port of Hamburg and the metropolitan region. The forwarder Ulrich Stein is a highly specialised and successful fruit logistics company.
