At HHLA's international locations, you will be given interesting practical assignments that complement your studies or training specialisation. The duration varies from a few weeks to several months, which you can spend at the port terminals in Tallinn (Estonia) or Trieste (Italy), for example.

"I was able to spend a week in Prague at the HHLA subsidiary Metrans. There I followed the events of intermodal transport between the Hamburg and Prague route and was able to get a taste of various departments. After work, I explored Prague and I am very grateful for the opportunity to gain practical experience."

We offer our industrial and technical trainees in particular the opportunity to gain an insight into other foreign companies through a local internship as part of an exchange programme. Take the opportunity to familiarise yourself with new work processes in another company and gain valuable experience abroad!

"As part of my exchange programme with the Lillebaelt Vocational Training Centre, I spent two weeks in Denmark with a company that specialises in the manufacture of high-pressure systems. Together with my tandem partner Nicolai, I manufactured two hammock frames that can withstand heavy weights. It was a great opportunity to exchange ideas about working methods in other countries."

The largest international student organisation AIESEC supports you on a volunteer assignment abroad. A total of 780 local committees are represented in 124 countries worldwide. In one of these countries, there are various opportunities to volunteer in ecological or social projects for a period of up to 6 weeks.

"During my six-week AIESEC stay in Malnate, I taught children between the ages of 10 and 14 in the "Youth 4 Impact" project. It was an exciting experience every day to teach school content related to climate change and its effects. The time with my Italian host family was exciting and we laughed a lot together despite some language barriers."

"I spent six weeks working at a language school in Denizli in south-west Turkey. If you had any questions, you could contact the local AIESEC managers directly, which was very helpful. I also went to a Turkish wedding, drank coffee at night at 40 degrees, tried out new dishes and got to know lots of other volunteers. Above all, this stay brought me a lot personally."
