As a rail logistics specialist, Metrans offers a dense rail network for the transport of containers between the North and the Baltic Sea, the Adriatic and the Black Sea. Our HHLA subsidiary connects ports with their hinterland, particularly with the export-oriented economies in Central and South-East Europe. It also offers continental transport services between the major economic centres of the EU. Rail traffic on the New Silk Road is bringing the growing markets of Asia closer to Europe.

Our rail subsidiary Metrans is optimising both rail traffic and container handling by operating 20 of its own terminals and a steadily growing number of connections. More than 130 modern locomotives and 3,700 special wagons ensure a high frequency and reliability of transport.

Roland Spedition is one of the largest container operators in hinterland transport in Austria. Founded in 1982 as a joint venture between the Austrian logistics company Heinz Gutjahr and Roland Spedition from Bremen, Roland has established itself as a neutral and reliable partner for freight forwarders and shipping companies in the market for maritime hinterland transport.

With an annual volume of around 130,000 TEUs, the company is now one of the largest owner-managed container operators in combined hinterland transport in Austria, making a significant contribution to the modal shift from road to rail. The network covers central and southern Europe and connects the ports of Hamburg, Bremerhaven, Rotterdam and Antwerp, as well as Koper and Trieste, with their hinterland.

Container-Transport-Dienst (CTD) defines itself as a partner in combined transport. The company is headquartered in Hamburg and focuses primarily on container trucking in the port. However, CTD also handles long-distance transport by heavy goods vehicle, inland waterway ship and rail. The branches in Kornwestheim, near Stuttgart, and in Berlin, where employees also plan routes for Mannheim, Frankfurt and Leipzig, manage the first and last mile to the client. CTD Container-Transport-Dienst uses technological innovations to optimise logistical processes and speed up transport.

HHLA Project Logistics offers special transport solutions for the entire Caucasus and Central Asia. Heavy loads, oversized loads or special requirements are our daily business. Our subsidiary specialises in the complete handling of project and transit cargo, in particular on behalf of international or local freight forwarders. High quality and reliability are a matter of course (certified according to ISO 9001 and 14000). Since 2001, HHLA Project Logistics has been headquartered in the Georgian seaport of Poti, a hub on the traditional ‘Silk Road’. There are further branches in Tbilisi (Georgia), Baku (Azerbaijan), Astana and Almaty (Kazakhstan).

As a leading provider of intermodal services, our Ukrainian Intermodal Company (UIC) connects Ukrainian ports with the hinterland and organises customer-oriented and cost-efficient container transport by rail. The company operates weekly block trains between the port of Odessa and major Ukrainian production and consumer centres. These run on the basis of a fixed timetable and are gradually being expanded in terms of frequency and relations, both in Ukraine and abroad.

UIC is committed to the high Western European service standards as well as to the requirements of our main customers, the shipowners and freight forwarders. UIC not only offers rail transport services, but can cover the entire transport chain at the customer's request. This includes both door-to-door deliveries and services such as storage, loading and discharging of containers or the composition of trains or wagon groups according to customer requirements.
