From 15 January 2017 onwards, a new production and shift pattern model will be implemented at Burchardkai. It is set to further significantly improve ship handling performance. It will ensure even more efficient throughput of vessels, which are growing ever larger in size.
Jens Hansen, Managing Director of the HHLA Container Terminal Burchardkai (CTB) says, “Adjustments to the previous production and shift pattern model mean container gantry cranes and straddle carriers in particular will be able to operate at our terminal continuously – both throughout the weekend as well as during the week. This means we’ll be reliably increasing the terminal’s seaborne handling capacities and quality. This is a further key step in preparing to efficiently handle ever-larger vessels. In spring 2017, we’re expecting our first vessel with a capacity of 20,000 standard containers (TEU). We see our optimised services as a way to more closely connect shipping companies with Burchardkai and Hamburg. It’s pleasing to see that by working closely together with our employees we were able to find a forward-looking solution.”
