HHLA celebrates christening of the Hamburg Express at Burchardkai

On 4 November 2024, the ‘Hamburg Express’ of the shipping company Hapag-Lloyd was christened at the Container Terminal Burchardkai of Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA). 

Eva Maria Tschentscher took over the christening of the ‘Hamburg Express’ at the CTB as part of the festive ceremony. Alongside its eleven sister ships, the ‘Hamburg Express’ is one of the largest container ships in the world with a length of 400 metres and space for 23,660 standard containers. Thanks to its dual-fuel technology, the ‘Hamburg Express’ can be powered by LNG and will also be able to use non-fossil fuels such as e-methane in the future. This significantly reduces CO₂ emissions and makes a valuable contribution to the decarbonisation of maritime shipping.
