More capacity for Airbus business: HHLA expands dedicated area at CTT
Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) has expanded its capacity for handling Airbus aircraft parts at Container Terminal Tollerort (CTT). The new storage bays were opened today in a joint ceremony with shipping company COSCO SHIPPING and Airbus. The expansion will make it possible in the future to ship even more aircraft components through the Port of Hamburg for transport to China.

Airbus has been transporting pre-assembled segments from its factory in Hamburg to CTT since 2008, where they are temporarily stored in a specially designated area and then loaded onto COSCO SHIPPING vessels. From here, the components are shipped to Tianjin in China for final assembly.
HHLA has significantly expanded its capacity to meet growing demand. By doubling its capacity, there are now a total of 20 bays available for Airbus segments. In 2025, just under 300 aircraft parts, weighing more than 5,000 tonnes in total, were handled at CTT.
A newly developed mooring technique has also been put into use, significantly improving the efficiency of handling processes. An extended wind barrier also protects sensitive cargo against external factors. The CTT service team takes great care to meet the high requirements of the aviation industry. Specially trained staff ensure that all safety standards are complied with and carry out regular standardised inspections.
Jaber Ghanim, HHLA project manager at CTT: “Together with Airbus and COSCO SHIPPING, we at CTT have laid the foundations for further expanding the export activities of one of Hamburg’s most important industrial companies. We are delighted to be able to support our partners in reliably bringing more high-quality European products to international markets in the future. Special thanks go to the project team at Tollerort, who successfully realised the expansion while operations continued as normal.”
