President Visits HHLA Terminal

At a model of the CTA Terminal, President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, his wife, Elke Büdenbender, (3rd from left) and Mayor of Hamburg, Olaf Scholz, (2nd from right) learned more about the benefits of the largely automated facility. Chairwoman of HHLA’s Executive Board, Angela Titzrath, (2nd from left) and CTA Managing Director, Oliver Dux, (right) then took their visitors on a tour of the terminal.

President Frank-Walter Steinmeier’s inaugural visit to Hamburg on Tuesday included a trip to the HHLA Container Terminal Altenwerder (CTA). Chairwoman of HHLA’s Executive Board, Angela Titzrath, and Managing Director of the CTA, Oliver Dux, took the president, accompanied by his wife Elke Büdenbender and the Mayor of Hamburg, Olaf Scholz, on a tour of the largely automated terminal. Ms. Titzrath explained to the group how the CTA continues to be one of the world’s most state-of-the-art container handling facilities. Due to its high degree of electrification and use of green power, the CTA produces very low emissions and is therefore considered an innovator in the fields of sustainability and resource conservation.

At the president’s request, he and his wife met with nine HHLA employees for a more informal conversation after their tour. They discussed topics such as training and the effects automation and digitisation are having on their work at the port. The last German president to visit HHLA was Horst Köhler in 2006.
