The historic buildings and bridges of Hamburg’s Speicherstadt will continue to be impressively illuminated in the future: after more than 20 years of civic engagement by the association ‘Licht-Kunst-Speicherstadt e.V.’, Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) is now taking over permanent responsibility for the façade lighting of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

HHLA takes over iconic façade lighting and creates long-term prospects
“HHLA's long-term funding commitment, combined with the continued artistic support of creator Michael Batz, ensures stability and new impetus for the project,” says Moritz von Bismarck, chairman of the association.
“The Speicherstadt is a symbol of Hamburg's history, future and its openness to the world. Our commitment will preserve and further develop the international appeal of this World Heritage Site and historic district – a boon for Hamburg, its residents and visitors from all over the world,” adds Michael Fußner, Managing Director of HHLA Immobilien.
The Licht-Kunst-Speicherstadt e.V. association is already working to generate new momentum for the city: a spectacular light art event is in the pipeline for next year to kick things off – with an impact that will be felt far beyond Hamburg.
