HHLA PLT Italy and Maersk are strengthening their partnership with a new weekly shuttle service to the Port of Trieste. The first vessel of the new E17 service docked at the terminal this week. The maritime connection between Port Said, Trieste, and Venice represents a significant enhancement of the Mediterranean logistics network, reaffirming the central role of the Trieste port.
The service will be operated by the modern vessels Nora Maersk, Maersk Valletta, and Maersk Valparaíso. Trieste’s position as the first port of call after Egypt strategically strengthens the terminal’s role in handling reefer cargo, particularly fruit and vegetables bound for Central and Eastern European markets.
To meet the growing demand in this sector, HHLA PLT Italy has already invested in its cold chain logistics and will expand its dedicated reefer services within the terminal even further. Additionally, the Border Inspection Point within the terminal provides a competitive advantage, streamlining all sanitary and veterinary inspections for imported cargo.
The new service also includes transshipment operations, with a portion of the containers being transferred via feeder service on barges to the ports of Ancona and Ravenna, optimizing distribution along the Adriatic coast. This innovative logistics solution significantly improves connectivity between key markets, reduces transit times, and enhances supply chain resilience in the Eastern Mediterranean.
