Following the expansion of the rail terminal at Burchardkai in 2019 by two additional tracks and two new rail gantry cranes, the extended connection of the terminal to the Hamburg port railway network was recently completed. With a second feeder track, the expanded capacities of the terminal can be even better utilised.
The extension of connection tracks at Mühlenwerder is part of one of the biggest infrastructure projects in the Port of Hamburg in the last few years. This also included the new construction of the Rugenberger lock and optimisation of the road networks via Altenwerder Damm and Rugenberger Damm. The last of four new Waltershofer bridges was deployed for this purpose in February 2020.
“The improved transport link to Burchadkai is an important step towards increasing the performance of our terminal when it comes to hinterland transport,” says CTB Managing Director Ingo Witte. At a small event last week that complied with all contact restrictions, Witte, Senator for Economic Affairs Michael Westhagemann, and HPA Managing Director Jens Meier thanked all those involved for the implementation of this ambitious project and their successful collaboration.
