Renewable energy is gaining increasingly importance in the region around Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. To support the continued expansion of wind power generation, HHLA Project Logistics (HHLA PL) has taken on the demanding task of transporting oversized components for wind farms along this challenging route.
The project cargo originates in China and initially arrives at the Turkish port of Hopa. From there, it continues along a complex inland route through Georgia. HHLA PL’s specialists manage the entire process, including planning, securing special permits and coordinating escorts with local authorities.
The cargo consists of various extremely heavy elements. In particular, the wind turbine tower sections – measuring up to 25 meters in length and 4.5 meters in width - pose significant challenges on narrow mountain roads. In total, individual transport units can weigh up to 185 tons.
Korneli Korchilava, Managing Director of HHLA Project Logistics: “Our primary focus is, of course, on meeting our customers’ needs. However, we are especially pleased when we can use our expertise to support sustainable energy projects.”
With this project, HHLA Project Logistics once again underscores its expertise in heavy-lift and special transport logistics – while making an important contribution to the expansion of renewable energy in Azerbaijan.
