The Equipment Engineer plays a critical role within the Asset team, the equipment engineer oversees and directs the ordering, delivery, testing and commissioning of all equipment like ship to shore cranes (STS), automated guided vehicles (AGV), automated rail mounted gantry cranes (ARMG) etc. according to Expansion Project requirements. The Equipment Engineer makes sure all required equipment arrives on time, within the budget, with the right level of quality and in line with operational, automation, and other requirements.

What you can expect

  • Plan, organise and direct equipment procurement, delivery, and testing and commissioning activities to achieve the scope of work for the project in accordance with the approved project schedule
  • Analyse the required deliverables to determine appropriate equipment solutions that meet project performance criteria
  • Provide and expedite solutions to project schedule delays when required
  • Comply with legal requirements and safety codes
  • Adhere to Company Safety Standards and promote a culture of safety
  • Oversee and direct the equipment suppliers
  • Coordinate with HHLA headquarters regarding equipment specifications and solutions
  • Ensure the timely procurement of equipment within project and headquarters constraints
  • Monitor and report to the project director asset in a timely manner on the progress and quality for equipment construction
  • Monitor and report to project management in a timely manner on risks and opportunities
  • Ensure all changes to engineering deliverables, specifications and scope of works are correctly documented
  • In conjunction with the controls team provide input into the Budget Cost Report.
  • In conjunction with QA/QC control team ensure the implementation of all company QA/QC protocols and procedures
  • Collaborate with civil construction team, automation and IT and third parties to ensure integrated delivery of the project
  • Produce, manage and update the procurement schedule for all equipment
  • Get all required approvals for procurement in line with headquarters and local requirements
  • In conjunction with the Health & Safety team ensure the implementation of all company HSE protocols and procedures

What you bring to the table

We’re looking for an experienced equipment engineer excited to join a large port expansion project in Italy. The person maintains the highest technical and safety standards and is an all-rounder with experience in ordering, delivery, testing and commissioning of large port equipment.

The role requires a pro-active approach with good communication skills and problem-solving in coordination with internal and external stakeholders, suppliers, third parties.

  • Good English (Italian and German is a plus)
  • Proven ability to deliver large-scale (port) equipment projects (>50 million Euro) on schedule as per plan
  • Knowledge of equipment (safety) regulations and quality standards
  • Good ability for decision making and judgement, execution, problem solving
  • Client focus/service orientation
  • Professional with a hands-on mentality
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Reliable and trustworthy; the ability to maintain confidential and meticulous records
  • BSc Degree or Diploma in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Automation, Industrial Engineering or a related filed
  • Project Management certification would be an asset

The ideal candidate would have a valid EU working permit and would be willing to relocate to Trieste in short notice.
