26-year-old Fatih Taskan had completed his training in January 2022 with a grade of A, after only two and a half years instead of the usual three. Since then he has been working at HHLA Container Terminal Tollerort as a straddle carrier driver, among other tasks.
"Our training manager, André Konopatzki, has worked hard to ensure that we not only get an insight into container operations and various HHLA companies during our training, but also at third-party companies. This meant that I was also able to learn first-hand about training topics such as goods inspection," says Fatih Taskan, describing one of the success factors of his excellent training. Another factor, in his view, was the good support during exam preparation - and his high motivation. "Because I love my job so much, I wanted to be the best," says Taskan. He had initially worked for "Gesamthafenbetriebs-Gesellschaft" (GHB) after graduating from high school. "I liked the port straight away and really enjoyed the work. So I applied for an apprenticeship at HHLA and was very happy that it worked out," reports Taskan. Now he would like to pass on his knowledge and enthusiasm. His next goal is therefore to become a trainer at HHLA.
"Fatih Taskan's excellent result underlines how well trainees at HHLA learn holistically and develop personally through practical guidance, project assignments such as his voluntary support for the charitable project ‘Mittagsrakete’ during the Corona pandemic, and theoretical knowledge transfer," explains André Konopatzki, Head of the HHLA Technical School.
HHLA's high level of training is also reflected in the fact that the company is regularly honoured as the best training company, most recently in 2021 and 2020. The award is presented by the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK). This year, there were 387,000 successful training completions across Germany, and 209 young women and men were honoured as the best in Germany.
