HHLA actively involved in the Hamburg Climate Council

Leading representatives from the business and science communities as well as associations and organisations launched the Hamburg Climate Council. The goal of the coalition is to initiate an informal and creative dialogue between the various representatives in order to systematically approach future challenges, especially regarding climate change. At the same time, an exchange of expertise is expected to encourage mutual understanding of the various requirements. The alliance sees itself as a deliberately non-political committee. 

In addition to HHLA Chairwoman Angela Titzrath, founding members include Arnaud Boehmann of the Fridays for Future movement; Prof. Dr. Martin Claußen, Director of the Max-Planck-Institut; and Bishop Kirsten Fehrs. Additional members are Michael Eggenschwiler, CEO of Hamburg Airport; Andreas Kröger, President of the Chamber of Agriculture; polar explorer Arved Fuchs; and well-known climate researcher Prof. Mojib Latif.

According to the Chairwoman of HHLA’s Executive Board, “HHLA is very conscious of its responsibility for climate protection and has for many years invested a great deal of effort in increasing the energy efficiency of its processes, protecting resources and reducing emissions.” She indicated the HHLA Group’s ambitious goal of wanting to become climate neutral by 2040. Titzrath maintains that climate protection is a task that will take generations and must be addressed by society as a whole; it can therefore only be mastered with a combined effort and openness to new ideas. She thus looks forward to hearing the diverse perspectives of the other members of the Climate Council.
